Trout in the Classroom: Fish Release Day at STEM Launch

🐟🌱 Trout in the Classroom: Fish Release Day! 🌱🐟
For the 3rd year in a row, our 2nd graders, with the mentorship of our 8th grade STEM Ambassadors, raised trout from egg to fingerling as part of the Trout in the Classroom program. This year, we received 200 trout eggs and successfully released 38 healthy trout into the South Platte River!
Through this hands-on experience, students learned not only about life cycles and ecosystems—but also about their role as environmental stewards. Caring for these trout helped them understand the importance of protecting our waterways and the wildlife that depend on them. 🌍💧
A special thank you to Colorado Parks and Wildlife for making the day even more memorable with a fishing clinic after the release! 🎣 Your support helps us connect classroom learning to real-world impact.
We’re so proud of our young scientists and future conservationists! 🌟

Special thanks to the STEM Launch community for submitting this Five Star Story.

This story exemplifies our ELEVATE Focus Area: Outside-the-Classroom Learning. Sharing stories about how the district offers students multiple learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom providing various pathways to success.
