Club Innovation fosters collaboration at STEM Launch

Club Innovation at STEM Launch showcases the power of collaboration between our K-8, Northglenn High School, and the University of Colorado Science Discovery. We hosted a family learning night this fall with over 200 in attendance, where the club tutors from Northglenn High and CU talked about what this club opportunity means to them:

"I wanted to work with the CU Science Discovery partnership because I think it's an amazing opportunity to tutor students who are the future of STEM." ~Abid Faridi, NHS Senior and future Aerospace Engineer

"I learned about this opportunity through the STEM Honor Society. I want to be a Kindergarten teacher or an interpreter one day, so I love this experience of working with kids and families." ~ Maria Velasco, NHS Senior

Kendall Suarez, a CU Freshman studying Aerospace Engineering, said she loves playing games with families at our engagement nights. "I want to be a project manager at Lockheed someday. I was interested in the tutoring program because I really enjoy working with kids and inspiring them to pursue STEM fields."

Our club students recently participated in a cleanup effort near Niver Creek and were able to track data on the types and amounts of items they collected. They will be using this data to practice communication around environmental issues over the next few weeks. Students will have the opportunity to create artwork using recycled materials and to help organize a plastic-film drive at STEM Launch in the next few months.
